#2 almost brought tears to my eyes - it is so similar to the bedroom I stayed in at my grandparents' home. After that, #s 10, 8, 5 and 4 warm the cockles of my heart. All the others are lovely, too, but I can't do a dark-colored bedroom.
Recently redid our Master bedroom waterfront home with soft colors, hues of the color of the water and this Phillip Jeffries wallpaper.
@Barbara Wynd: You are right on. Stone and boulders are expensive even if you cut out the middleman and work directly with the quarry. Through my land Architect, I worked directly through the quarry because of the amount of rock I needed for my pond. The charge for the rock itself is by the pound, then you have to pay for hauling on a huge semi to carry it to your location. After that, it's the unloading and placement.
A stone store pays the same way direct from the quarry, then tacks on a retail percentage for homeowners. Most homeowners probably don't have the knowledge about stone and hiring semi tractor-trailers. I don't so I relied on my land Architect.
However, one doesn't have to have rock and boulders. Gabions are a lot cheaper and so are smaller stones. One could make a beautiful yard using river rock and even field stone. If you need a 'wall' due to the terrain, check out the gabion system which is basically a wire container filled with smaller rock, broken concrete, etc. And another idea that's even less expensive than gabion is riprap for steeper slopes. Again, use your browser if interested.
Below is an example of how one granite rock on end as an obelisk can appear to mark a property corner by a dirt road. To me, it's a lot better than a sign! :) At least someone can't pick it up and cart it away on the back of their pickup! LOL
Still a lot to do but love working with rocks and boulders
I would love to find a similar console for my entry way !!
Can you please share your source???
All are beautiful! Timeless.
Someone else posted this question about 10 years ago. And there is one corner fireplace and built in that I think looks spectacular.
There is a great article from 10 years ago about corner fireplaces.
Corner Fireplaces Give Rooms a Design Edge
This one is similar to a credenza with lovely shelves that might be able to hold a large tv
Thank you all so much for taking the time to comment. That corner fireplace and the long wall were giving me fits.🙃Now I know I’m not crazy! Thank you for all the wonderful options!!
