Very nice room with it's own challenges! See the photo of a six sided coffee table shown with a curved sofa and round brass tables beside it and a pair of dark legged chairs. Hey, you have those! I like your green chairs, the dark legs help ground the room. You just need to add some more green to your room; a pillow or throw on your sofa. You may find that adding another purple chair helps, pairs of chairs are easier to work with in a large room.
Up here in Canada, the higher end furniture stores offer free home decorator visits. Might be worth asking in your area if you are coffee table shopping.
I like the layout of the 2nd photo I have attached. You get to see the fireplace AND the view out your gorgeous windows!

I'm not fond of hanging wet towels inside a cupboard, not enough air circulation to dry. What type of hardware are you putting on your cupboards? You could put long pull handles on the fronts of the two cupboards below your sink, or one on the end of your island. They make them in transitional or traditional styles, not just modern. Funny how it's the practical things that are used everyday that seem to get 'missed! Beautiful kitchen!

Hi Christy,

I hang my damp kitchen towels to the kitchen window frame next to sink, I usually wring the towel before hanging though. And am happy for now...but just thinking to get ikea towel rack, as the one I have is kind of broken..

so far no issues and have been using past 4 years. No problem with opening/closing of blinds too!

Christy this is a very old thread but what was your back splash for this kitchen? This is my color scheme and I’m struggling to pick a nice non-white backsplash

Designers like to mix 50/50 traditional formal WITH MODERN. The more I see it, the more I like it. Try a modern laquered or silver box or tray in the middle section, and possibly your round shaped blue & white vases on each side. Add a sidechair with a bright seat or bright stripe. Add more of the bright blue like in your vases. Don't be afraid to mix silver & gold metals.
Inspiration photos attached. Try the 50/50 mix, you'll like it! It's a foyer, it should be a bit more relaxed, less formal for your guests coming into your home! Use your glass pieces on your kitchen counter but put some bright yellow lemons or granny smith green apples in them. I have tried to do this in my own home. If it is an antique, I put something modern and clean lined with it. It works beautifully!

Ok, I am looking at all this again, the flo usually stays in an armoire in the guest room, it comes out for Memorial Day, Flag Day, & 4th of July! LOL! However, I do like a piece of it here and there in the bookcase, but I really don't have any other blue in my dining room or my living room. The decanters on the other hand....are a different story. I love the play of crystal against a mirror and they set the stage for using this piece in collaboration with the dining room, so....I am back to bluenan's idea with the decanters in the center as a collection and the 2 smaller blue vases on either side. So, the original #3 option in the original dilemma discussion. Very Very Simple and Very Symmetrical......but oh-so-easy, and lets me skip the fake vs real flower issue, LOL! Also, a break from cleaning the silver service, which is really what SHOULD go on the sideboard, according to my mother!.

And thank you also, Cole Lumber Co., for your ideas and comments. My DH is groaning right now just thinking about raising that mirror 4", but I see your point. I assure you, if I start filling up the walls with all the flo blue plates, platters, and trays I have, my DH & Kids will RUN from the house, never to be seen again. The foyer is restrained from too much craziness and I am trying to simplify not Re-Clutter, LOL! I especially love a needlepoint pillow cover on a down pillow and that is a great accessory to have, so thanks!

This buffet has the high/low inset in it and it absolutely demands something in the center as well as both sides, but simple it can be.

Tiffany66, I love the ZGallerie clam shell, better than Ballards, thanks tiffany66! So glad you didn't say the fake orchid died, LOL! I agree, a high quality fake is a good investment.

But this begs my question of all you wise decorators....how to effectively mix antiques with modern or an occasional artsy piece and still pay homage to the authenticity of a well loved or prized possession? I yearn for the finesse to make that happen. I always end up thinking the modern piece is just junk in favor of my own "junke"! LOL!

In reviewing ways to display a collection, I thought you were supposed to group them together in a way they make sense like these pics. I would love to see antique collections successfully mixed with modern accessories, if you have accomplished this for your client, weigh in, please.

Agree with comments above, plus add a small table between the 2 chairs. Maybe have a custom padded cushion made to fit your window seat, or put a really nice bonsai plant there to bring the greenery inside.

I answered your message enquiring about the rug the day you sent it. Then re-sent it as you asked again. I think you might not be checking your in messages - you can turn this setting on so that you are notified when you get messages.

I would be jumping up and down with joy if this was my space, KEEP IT! Nobody is telling you to endorse chewing tobacco of course. But that is one awesome sign, who says that won't jive with traditional. I think I like the 'dirty' whitewashed look better than the scrubbed part.

Congrats on your husband's effort of putting the shelf up, but, in your 3rd photo, it just does not jive/compliment the top moulding of your cupboard, and it does make your doors
look low. I would subconsciously feel like I had to duck going out the door. Your space is lovely! It will look even better if you take down the shelf!

I'm surprised you would let vultures eat off your Norman Rockwell collection.
