I have pets, so towels down low is a no-go for me...the cats would pull them down to play with them. Also, I don't like dishwasher/range handles because the towels touch the floor (ick) when the door is open. So, for me, it's a hook attached to the side of the wall cabinet by the sink. (Sorry, no photo). My grandma has always had a towel bar attached to the sink base cabinet, with one towel for hands, and one for dishes (and you'd better not get them mixed up!), while my Mom always just had one towel casually laying around on the counter, used for whatever.

I guess we're the oddballs here, but hubby and I use one 100% flax linen towel for dish drying only, which we keep on top of the microwave. The heat and fan from the microwave helps dry the towel. And we use a separate linen towel for hand drying which, believe it or not, we hang on the fridge door handle. Real linen dries very quickly and is naturally mildew resistant and antibacterial. Perfect for drying hands. I admit it...I have a linen addiction.

Have installed a rack on the inside of the cabinet door under the sink &was happy with it in 2 houses for over 30years. Now, not so much! The cabinet door gets far too much wear and tear. The finish becomes gummy from constantly being opened & closed with wet or dirty hands. And when I added baby locks to protect grandbabies, now it’s a multi step, 2-handed process to get to a towel. I’ve installed a bar on the end of the island directly opposite the sink and it is a great improvement! Never will use in the cabinet again.
