There is an 1850 house here who did this in a traditional manner, about 26 years ago.
The walls are thick so there are window embrasures, and they hung the (antique) mirror over the window and instead of the pocket shutters folded into the pockets, the outer shutter panel served as a door for a medicine cabinet on each side. The sink was a Victorian pedestal sink. So rather than being a modern bath, it was more like an intact 1850s room with a sink, and tub sitting in it. (I don't remember how they managed the toilet and shower).
