I agree with Patricia. That would be a lot of tchotches if you were to put things on the shelf everywhere. If you have a need for organized shelving you could do something like this over part of the shelf. Or not - I'm just posting this because I thought it was a clever use of the shelf. But you shouldn't be buying things just to fill up something like this. This is good if you already have things you want to display in a more intentional way.
I agree with Green Designs.....preferably nothing! Your home is gorgeous......just get some great landscaping!
Landscaping ( or lack of it.!) is the only thing I see that needs addressing.
Since the post is 7 years old, I'll bet all the decisions have been made.
Beautiful stone. In my opinion do not use a synthetic stone with real stone. Quartz looks so fake. You could use the blue slab all over, but the I think everything else should be white. If you have an island you could use it on that and let it be a statement piece, but then I would still do the perimeter in white or perhaps another lightly veined stone. No Quartz.
Patrica, I like the soapstone idea too. There is some beautiful soapstone at one the granite supplies I’m visiting next week. The blue fantasy is at a different supplier so I will not be able to see them side by side.
Joseph🤣. Yes it’s a thing but it’s a thing that can be easily changed
I actually love the funky door you originally posted. I think it would look great on your house. It looks as if you put a work of art on your front door. Have a little fun with your house.
One thing I’ve learned, if you have to talk yourself into it, you won’t like it. Since you posted the question, I feel like you don’t love the first design you posted. I do think some sort of simple scrollwork would be nice, the vertical bars on the existing door seem to my eye to clash with the arches. Agree also with existing proportion of door seems appropriate, and would probably save you some money.
That’s interesting what they do in Arizona! Brings a screen door to a whole new level!
Ty. 😀
Prices vary greatly throughout the country. I would recommend you get three estimates in your area.
If you are asking can you have a black house with white trim, my opinion is absolutely not. Trim needs to be black or other deep color.
Yes a little more helpful and positive
Okay, you have two Posts and I'm glad I found the other one because @Paul F. render in that thread is spot on. I like the Charcoal color he chose.
I agree rework the front porch larger or more open. I agree wood garage doors would be nice but the white works.
I can’t help with your question, but I love your inspo!
Honestly, I’d put a cool cat tree there. the cat already likes the window. We have a cat tree in the family room. The cat loves it. I hate it. If I had an out of the way, sunny window spot that was not in the family room, we would both be happy. 😊
Oh boy. This is a decision for the couple. I would never try to persuade my child to buy a house. Kindly back off.
Well I think we start by asking her what she does not like . I don't like it is too vague to even hazard a guess. I will say I am a designer but my kids rarely ask me for help with their homes and so I don't offer . Maybe she just does not want help . hat house could be awesome but who knows what is in her head. Maybe it is just too daunting to even start with 2 little kids. If they are just wanting land then why worry about the existing house at all. She needs to share waht she does not like then we can maybe help.
It is hard to imagine a young couple with two children under age 2 who'd have time or energy to DIY much of anything on a fixer upper for a few years.
That L shaped thing is horrible. Awful. Repulsive. It cuts off circulation and just isn't good design. You need an actual table in the bay, and a smaller island in the kitchen, so people can move between the two.
Terrible design. The bay needs a table. Period.
Too much gray for me, too. Also looks like the room doesn't have a window, so that adds to the grayness. The good news is that what you have is a very neutral backdrop so you have a lot of possibilities. If you really don't want to paint, use colorful towels. If you're up for painting, you can use white, or a light blue or green. Or if you like stronger colors, look at SW Sea Salt, which is very popular in bathrooms. It's blue-green - how it looks depends on the lighting. Some people see more blue, some more green. In BM, look at Quiet Moments, which is similar to Sea Salt.
A very good call......soapstone ! Quartz is fine for another house, just not YOUR house: )
I understand your concern, Sarah, about light. However, that being said, I don't think that a short dark backsplash is going to have much of a negative effect on the lighting in the room. If you were using dark cabinets then maybe it would be a problem. But that small amount, not a big deal, in my opinion. If you need more light than is provided by the window, then make sure you have sufficient artificial lighting--recessed, under-cabinet, pendants, etc.
I think white washing the ceiling would be a great compromise and far less expensive than painting white
White ceiling, black beams, white walls, this tone floor and black wood work. Definitely replace the fan with a chandelier.
Lisedv, interesting that I also thought about the mid room placement of furniture, but of course envisioned it facing the existing TV and new fireplace. Love the navy suggestion, and will look to incorporate with accessories, pillows etc. Dark furniture with a blond pup isn’t a good mix.
I’m leaning heavily toward painting all woodwork except the ceiling, both for cost saving and the fact that the peak has some significant gaps that would require some major caulking and regular upkeep. I’m still debating if I continue the white from the wood along the other walls, or something different.
I love all of these suggestions, and can’t wait to talk to a painter to see if my dream is possible!
