We took some unused extra space (about 100 square feet) from the adjacent garage when we renovated and used this space to create a scullery/laundry room just off the kitchen. There is a large, deep sink for soaking pots and pans, for arranging flowers, for occasional laundry purposes, potentially for washing a small pet, and right next to the outdoor deck dining area. The washer and dryer are behind doors. There is some counter space as well as extensive extra cabinetry. The counter could be used for folding laundry if needed. In short, we use this space for myriad functions, a real work horse of a space.
I love the enclosed cabinet litter box idea, and the cutout entrance is very clever. Unfortunately, my cat would hate it. Unlike most cats who enjoy closed in spaces, my cat seems to not like them much at all. Boxes and bags are mostly ignored. I bought her a new larger litter box not long ago, and it came in a giant box filled with packing paper. She did use the box as a bed for a time, but it was really the paper that attracted her rather than the box itself. It was "crinkly" and she liked the sound it made. Something in her previous life, before I adopted her as a 5-year old, I guess, turned her off enclosed spaces, though I have no idea what it is. So I accomodat her by letting her take them or leave them as she pleases, but one thing I would not do is enclose her litter box, or even put a hood on it in the absence of a cabinet. She has excellent toileting habits and I would not want to do anything that might discourage her.
I have three dishwashers, one next two the sink and the other two in front of the sink. They're either me or my wife.
I DO not see the need for two dishwashers unless you have a dozen people in the house, and then can't a few of them do dishes?
Be careful about the height of the vanity surface. If you are short, then the currently fashionable taller vanities are a recipe for wet sleeves and drips. You just can’t keep your arms at the proper angle for confining water to the sink while washing your face. Guess how I know this…
Nice job. Warm homey feel, and thoughtfully arranged. Houzz- thank you for including a regular sized kitchen in what seems to be a regular sized house.
So refreshing to see they got rid of their white kitchen. The green and wood cabinets really warm up the space. And they kept their existing appliances.
