For the third time, I have bought a rug on Etsy from an source in India that is a dupe of a pricier version (Anthro, Serena and Lily, and now Nordic Knots). Once again, very happy.

Here is the original, which I needed in a custom size, I was quoted $1250 plus shipping, and 10-15 weeks lead time. Here is the descriptor and pic.

  • Hand loomed cut pile design. 12 mm thickness.
  • New Zealand wool, for softness and durability.
  • Designed in Stockholm, handmade in Bhadohi, India.

Instead, I used an Etsy vendor. $279 total and eight weeks later.

Tufted Rug 100% NewZealand Woolen Area Rug With Medium Thick Pile And Cotton Backing

The seller kept calling it "yellow" and I was very worried about the color. It is a yellowy camel, just like the NordicKnots one.

As far as quality, the original is hand loomed, this is tufted. I do not know much about these differences, but did read this:

High quality hand-knotted rugs are still in use after 100 years. A typical hand-tufted rug will last 5 to 7 years, and top quality custom-made, hand tufted rugs will last 30 years or more. A typical hand-loomed rug will last 2 to 5 years.

A friend of mine just left to go to Amsterdam for a month! Solo except for a one week visit from a friend. Not sure how I’d feel about a month alone but I do love a solo trip once in a while…not that I have done it much, but I would like to do it once a year, say.

Spanish, good thought. I think of this Paris trip as a being trip.

Meanwhile, we are visiting two of our other faves in just a few weeks: Venice and Geneva. Can’t wait. We are enjoying re-visiting places we have been to previously with kids. Such a different experience. Loved traveling with the kids but everything is easier with 2 versus 5 people!

My mother had a long faux leopard coat in the ’60s, how I wish I had it (I do have my grandmother’s c. 1940s red coat with big brass buttons).

Leopard/other animal prints will always be in style to me. I don’t overdo it, but always have them in my wardrobe and decor.

I have dyed rabbit fur coat and fur hat (brown), sheared raccoon fur coat (red), 3 sweaters, a jacket and a pair of shoes in leopard print.

Great result! We found an antique restoration ”guy” who does such a good job. It’s an art for sure!

Gorgeous. Now you'll have to figure out where to put all the stuff that was covering it!

Edited to add - Hope the refinisher doesn't have too many Insta followers thinking it was you that trashed that nice table!

Wow, that's amazing!

I wish I knew of or could find a good refinsher. I have a large burl wood coffee table with inlay that I just adore. It's my favorite piece of furniture. I would love to have it refinished to fix some small mishaps but I am afraid of it being ruined.

Im waiting for my work computer to reboot, so i took a look….

What struck me was it was a lot of whining without perspective.

Example #1: I bought my first condo in California in 1993. It was 1br/loft/2ba. It was $133k, today many have extended and enclosed the loft pushing the value to >$600k.

I made $32k annually and worked a second full time job four months a year for another $10k. Today’s 28 year olds with the same qualifications would make a lot more in that same job.

Example #2: As a lifelong 2nd hand buyer and seller, the real issue is the stuff people buy new (which feeds the 2nd hand market) is now mostly crafted as disposable goods. So there are fewer quality things to buy on the secondary market and the expectation of price to quality is incongruent.

We have an amazing farmer’s market. Vendors are restricted to local produce with the exception of two larger stands that can bring in things grown in other parts of the state. Eastern Washington has a very different climate than ours, so they grow things that can’t be grown as well locally. Asparagus, artichokes, melons, sweet cherries (WA produces the most in the USA), many varieties of apples and pears. There are a few craft vendors, but the market is very selective for high quality so there isn’t junk.

Thursdays, the vendors give a senior discount and all vendors take food stamps/EBT. The two large fruit stands give free apples to kids. I am unsure how prices compare because I don’t (luckily) have to pay attention and am willing to try to support our local farmers.

" If only more of our 'leaders' would be more forward thinking about these things... "

I agree about the need for more vocational training opportunities. I don't think available programs and schools, and there are many, are at capacity as is. One problem is that the interest in and decision to enter vocational training requires more than short-range thinking. And a degree of maturity that many recent high school grads or dropouts lack. It should be a no-brainer - many are not cut out or interested in academic advancement, vocational training leads to satisfying and well-paying jobs with lifelong career opportunities.

Nothing happens until the interested person walks in a door, dials a phone number or connects on a website. Point the finger at parenting failures, not political or public ones.

Oh yeah I bought up every New Balance 840 version I could find in my size from any online retailer. Now they’ve altered the style and it doesn’t fit me as good. I have Hoka Solimars which I like, so I need to keep on with these. I do not like the overly squishy Hoka like the Clifton 9 so the Solimar are better for me. Once you find a style/size that works, you have to keep with it.

Some people find they have to size up in sneakers, but I find my normal 7.5 works fine for me.

Like I mentioned I bought these cute Steve Madden saddle shoe style but I would not wear them to work out.

Seeing a foot doctor is a good place to start..then …if needed …you can get prescription orthotics that will fit into most shoes..for support …even in dressy shoes…they are worth the process and expense..they sometimes need a little trimming for certain shoes but I never had a problem from doing that…and over time I found I didn’t need them with slip on shoes from the stores like Happy Feet that had added orthotic support….orthotics soles/liners are costly but they can be trimmed to fit in and out of all your regular shoes easily …if needed….

I would swear I posted on this last night, but don’t see it. I don’t think I used a trigger word, I was just saying ours came last night.

It’s supposed to start at 12:20 here. I‘m getting excited! We do have some cloud cover, but the eclipse is still going to be fun to watch. :)

ETA: It might be my imagination, but the light outside seems a bit different right now.

Like Sue, my big @$...I mean hips.....would fill those out just fine.

It's all about proportions. If they are baggy at the hips, they should also be wide at the bottom. Those are too narrow at the bottom to carry off the baggy jeans look.

....I WISH I had that problem! :)

Those Toteme pants are gorgeous. For some reason, I just thought the groin to knee area in the BB pants looked excessively fabric swathed, lol.

The proportions are definitely wrong, but what I've seen from H & M hasn't been the best quality. Bumble, I had to look up barrel jeans. Not seeing anything like that around here yet. Have to say I hope we don't, but I won't be wearing them, nor do I plan to wear pleated pants again LOL. I do think the blazers are too long; how tall are you KSWL?

I had one that wouldn't stop going off even after a battery change. A FREEKIN spider set up house and home inside.

I really identify with this story. During the pandemic my husband was working in another state and I was home alone in a house with 9ft ceilings and a dozen smoke alarms. I start being woken up in the night by chirping. I'm wandering around the house stopping at each alarm, trying to figure out which one is beeping. I then discover my small ladder isn't tall enough for me to reach the ceilings. So I go buy another slightly taller one so I can reach the ceilings without trying to haul in our heavy very tall ladder on my own. I replace all of the batteries. And still, middle of the night "chirp, chirp". I finally narrow the sound down to somewhere in the basement but I cannot for the life of me figure out where the d*** smoke alarm is! I've replaced the batteries for every single smoke alarm I can find in the basement and still, middle of the night, "chirp, chirp". FINALLY I realize that there is a carbon monoxide detector plugged into the base of wall in the furnace room, hidden behind a stack of new furnace filters. I think it took me weeks to find it. When the house would get cold at night the battery would get too low and cause it to chirp, but it wouldn't do it in the daytime when I could more easily search for it.

I've heard stories of people going in their elderly relatives' homes and finding smoke alarms chirping away and the homeowners either oblivious or so used to the sound they didn't even notice it anymore.

Mine, on my main floor, would go off whenever I baked or broiled anything and opened the oven door. I finally started covering it with one of those flimsy shower caps you get at hotels whenever I was going to use the oven. Eventually, I replaced my builder grade exhaust fan over the stove with a more powerful one. If I remember to turn it on full blast before opening the oven door, I can avoid it going off.

I’m also of the camp of ”the brighter the outfit, the more neutral the lipstick”. But since all of the lipsticks nowadays seem to dry me out, I rarely wear red anymore😒 When I did, it was either with black or neutral clothing.

Another thing, if your lipstick is close to the color of the dress, I think it would be overkill. Peony Pink makes the colors put together.
