o Botanical Garden of the University of Osnabrück

The Botanical Garden of the University of Osnabrück is the most recent in Gemany, the "baby garden" was founded in 1984. The Garden is located in an old limestone-quarry and is an easy 10 minute walk from the centre of the city.

In an area of about 9 hectares we have naturalized plantings from the northern hemispherical woodlands of North America, Eurasia and Japan. In addtition, we have demonstration gardens on insectivorous plants, the cooevolution of flowers and pollinators, medicinal plants, calciferous plants and a number of other topics.

In the greenhouses we mainly keep plants of the neotropics. Unfortunatedly the greenhouses are not for display, but we hope to be able to build a rainforest house in the near future.

The Garden feels education of the public is an important part of our work. In cooperation with the society of friends, Freundeskreis Botanischer Garten, we founded the Grüne Schule Osnabrück (The Green School of Osnabrück.) Here biologists and students train pupils and adults in botany and ecology with ever increasing success.
