Can someone help ID my Tree Fern?
Comments (6)Mine survives typical winters in 8b - 9a. Keep it faily dry and provide good protection for the tip of the crown. Do not allow water into the crown during the winter. I slide a large cardboard bow over mine. Shovel it full of dry leaves, then cover the whole thing with a Big trashbag, but allow for some air circulation. I normally have to trim the fronds quite a bit. I start watering with high pottasium fertilizer in the fall, and cover it just before the first frost....See MoreBrown spots on top of my rough tree ferns leaves?
Comments (2)You mean Cyathea australis, yes? Without a working link to some good photographs there's nothing useful anybody can tell you - either about the apparently dying frond you describe - or about the overall status of the tree fern itself. There may be absolutely nothing wrong at all, but it's impossible to say without some visual information. Is the fern even rooted or just a bare trunk specimen? That's vitally important to know too. Nobody wants spots ON TOP of their leaflets, but you're not just making a fuss about the rows of spot-like sori on the UNDERSIDE of a sporing frond, by any chance...? One frond dying off is nothing to worry about in an otherwise healthy tree fern, especially in winter - C.australis isn't necessarily evergreen and defoliates entirely in many habitats - but some good pictures are going to be necessary to elicit the sort of advice that might set your mind at rest,...See MoreTree Ferns - The Secret Tree Fern Fertilizer?
Comments (6)There are many different species of tree fern that come from all sorts of different habitats. Do you have an ID for yours? Some tree ferns drop their fronds soon after they dry off. Some retain the dead fronds for quite a while. As long as there's plenty of good fronds in the crown of the plant it does no harm to cut off the ones that are dying and looking bad. As long as they have plenty of water some tree ferns can cope with full sun. But that's not all species. If you don't know the ID then stick with keeping it out of direct sunlight, or in filtered sun at most. Remember that indoors the air get's quite dry so the plant will appreciate a bit of misting....See MoreIs my Dwarf Bomfire Peach Tree dead?
Comments (4)give it another month .. you will know ... did the pot repeatedly freeze and thaw all winter long???? .. was the pot in any winter sun???? .. if so... you probably rotted the roots ... be nice to know where you are.. peach is rather variable... in many climes ...
