I have just planted some beans and I am concerned about the fly that seems to enjoy being a pest to beans can anyone help me
I live in North Queensland where bean fly is a common pest. The last lot of dwarf beans I planted, I made an enclosed tent over them of shade cloth. Though they grew into lanky plants that had to be tied up, I waited until they started to flower before taking the shade cloth off. I then heaped the soil high around their stems. They were attacked by bean fly, but the flies larva didn't have time to destroy vital stems before the plants got a crop. It wasn't as big a crop as I could have got by using poison, but I got a fair crop untouched by chemicals.
