Brunsfelsia latifolia, is the scented one has less flowers, so they say. Mine is covered.
B exima has masses and masses of flowers, no scent.
There may be other variety.

I didn't know there was more than one variety!

We inherited ours when we bought our house - it had never flowered for the previous owner (planted in the darkest corner you could imagine!). We cut out 1 tree and in my mind it didn't alter light levels one iota but it promptly burst into flower a month or so later....needless to say the previous owner was not very happy when she came back to collect various cuttings. It has flowered religiously every year since and from Heathers description, it sounds like it's B exima.

Hmmm, after all that, I guess it doesn't help you much does it?!!! Anyway, good luck in getting it to flower,

I have seen where this plant can be problem for asthmatics. I dug mine out for this reason.

yeh i've never seen a model that doesn't flower profusely or have that wonderful aroma well of course any aroma can be a hassle to particular folk we all have different reactions to things.

You could try giving it some sulphate of potash.

Well you are not wrong there Len and GH, that's one aroma I can certainly do without.
A very offensive smell to my family ,we cannot handle it at all and are not asthmatics,
Shame though as the flowers of those three different colours look good....MM.

A vet once told me that this plant can also be very toxic to dogs, so worth keeping an eye on if your dog is like mine - ie chews everyhing!

Everything else around it flowers as per normal...just not mine.
It gets a few flowers. I don't even know if they are perfumed or not.
Another lady I know had a large-leafed and large-flowered variety. The flowers were much bigger than the other kind and it was beautiful.
Is it too late to give it a good dose of potash Pam?

I have the same problem, Annie. My brunfelsia looks healthy but has only ever had an odd flower on it. It is in full sun in a sheltered spot. I have given it potash and it is mulched in fairly fertile soil. It may have suffered during the dry but we have had good rain recently with no better results. I think we must just have a dud plant.

Well, I'm sorry to hear about your plant, Brizzie, but I'm glad I'm not the only one with a dud.
The trouble is mine is a big healthy bush but I do feel that I've given it enough chances.
Now all I have to do is find a bribe big enough for my son so he'll do the deed for me.
I remember over on the Rose Forum, they used to park the shovel next the bush that wasn't performing...a not-so-subtle threat.
I wonder if it'll work with our bushes, Brizzie?

If you want it to flower make sure it gets lots of sun as if it is in to much shade, it may never flower Dr Fred would say 6 hours sun a day for flowering and a light feed of blood and bone with the Potash Chiero
