Since I have several cannas, I might leave one of each type outside this winter, protect as planned, dig up the others, and see what's happened to the 2 guinea pigs this coming spring. Might have something new to report to this forum! In storing my dahlia tubers (originally grown from seed), I've bound nothing beats peat moss. I washed mine well, made sure they were dry, buried them in peat moss in a 5-gal cat litter bucket with a plastic snap lid on top, and promptly forgot where I'd stored them. (in the coolest closet in the house) By the time I found them, they'd put out roots and shoots like crazy. Best dahlia bed I never had, this year. BTW, that Fiskars folding saw looks incredibly handy. I'm putting that on my Santa Claus list. Last year, he brought me my Felco pruners. cheers Janice

Larry, Suja just emailed me to check in, which reminded me I should post something. I wanted to tell you not to plan space for the Bengal Tigers. We had a fire December 2nd. The restoration people took everything left in the house, inventoried it and packed it up to be cleaned. I'm afraid they might have thrown my bags of bulbs out, because they even cleaned the garage. Imagine my surprise when they tackled that. Anyway, I might not have any in the spring. Sorry, Christine

Angela, that is what I did. The prob. with it is I zip tied my tiny little lights on and have to prop up my flats until the plants are big enough. It is a huge pain. There is also really only room for 1 flat per shelf. I figured it out according to Lowes $ for lumber and the cheapest shop lights they show online and I think you could build one for around 75-80. In my opinion, by the time you purchase the shelving unit and a couple lights, you might as well do this. I think you will have much more room and it will work better as far as moving the lights up and down. Just my opinion, though. If you already have a shelving unit, it might make more sense to do that until later, but the lumber is only going to cost around 20 bucks right now, at least in my area. OSB is $6 and 2x4 or 1.77 here. I am not sure you can buy a shelving unit, even cheap plastic for that. I just need an upgrade or more room or something.
