Xanthorhiza simplicissima
Xanthorhiza simplicissima, commonly known as yellowroot, is a low growing understory shrub native to North America. It reaches a height of 12-18" (30-45 cm) and has dark green dissected foliage which turns brilliant purple in fall. Drooping, purple flowers appear in late spring. It prefers moist, woodland conditions.
