Hydrastis canadensis

Hydrastis canadensis

Hydrastis canadensis makes an interesting addition to any shade border or natural garden. The handsome foliage unfurls in the early spring, followed by quarter-sized white flowers reminiscent of Trautvetteria caroliniensis, another Ranunculaceae family member. The flowers last about a week or so and then begin their summer-long transformation into brilliant red berries.

This month's contest winner will receive three Hydrastis canadensis supplied by Sunshine Farm & Gardens.
