- This plant is a native of the Southern Hemisphere.
- This plant may reach 4 m (13 ft) in height.
- The leaves of this plant are 5-7 cm (2-3 in) in length.
- The stem of this plant is verruculose.
- This plant is a twinning liana.
- The cordate-oblong, acuminate leaves of this plant are glossy above and purple or grey-green beneath with pubescent axils.
- This plant is a member of the same family as Saba senegalensis.

Saruma henryi
Saruma henryi is a native of China and a somewhat taller relative of the gingers native to North America. The yellow flowers appear over the medium-green, cordate foliage in early spring. Saruma is a monotypic genus in the Aristolochiaceae family. The genus name is an anagram of the genus Asarum, the herbaceous gingers.
