Clues to the Mystery Plant:
- This plant is a native of the Northern Hemisphere.
- The tiny flowers of this plant form spike-like racemes 5 cm (2in) in length.
- This plant reaches 9m (30 ft) in height.
- The leaves of this plant are bipinnate, with the petiole reaching 15 cm (6 in) and the pinnae reaching 17 cm (7 in) in length.
- This plant is often used in xeriscaping.

The Prize!
Pinellia tripartita
Pinellia tripartita is similar in shape, form and growth habit to the more familiar Arisaema triphyllum, commonly known as Jack-in-the-pulpit. The spadix within a white spathe appears in mid spring. This native of southern Japan grows to about 6-8" in height and prefers a shady spot and it's hardy to zone 5 at least, probably 4, possibly even 3.
