- Though normally 2-4 ft. (.6-1.2 m) in height, this plant can grow as high as 6 ft. (1.8 m).
- The compound leaves of this plant are up to 2 ft. (60 cm) wide.
- This plant is found in mountain forests and woods.
- This plant normally flowers between May and July.
- While some individual plants of this species have perfect flowers, others are dioecious.
- This plant is a native to the southeastern U.S.
- The flowers of this plant are only 1/16th of an inch (4 mm) long.
- This plant's Asian cousins (plants of the same genus) have been much hybridized and are frequently used in shade gardens.

Sanguisorba tenuifolia atropurpurea
Sanguisorba tenuifolia atropurpurea has lovely medium green, dissected foliage and reaches a height of 4 to 5 feet. An almost shrublike herbaceous perennial, it produces 3" dark purple flowers at the end of the summer and has no insect or disease problems. It prefers full sun to part shade and medium to moist soil conditions.
