I live at 55 degrees North, about 2000 ft above sea level. Our frostfree season runs from about June 20 to August 30, so I'm always looking for ideas for plants that will do a lot in a short period of time. I have established a perennial garden and have had success with most zone 3 plants. I don't need to mulch much, even with -40 winters as we are guaranteed great snow cover ..There is approx. four feet of snow covering my yard now - more in the drifts - and it is the day after Easter Sunday. I love to read gardening books and translate them into northern gardening - like anything that blooms in midspring means early July here!
