I have a little garden of sorts in our resthouse, perched on a hillside. The climate is tropical, with rainfall for 8-10 months and a short dry season. It is also kind of windy most of the year. I have little of the following plants, plus more that need to be identified.
My favorite plant is Impatiens. I have a lot of I. walleriana and a few I. hawkerii. I. walleriana grows in the wild where I live and walking through the rainforest with a carpet of pink Impatiens is magical!
I also love fragrant-flowered plants. Nothing beats Cestrum nocturnum. They are literally covered with blooms most of the year and the fragrance wafts inside the whole house and neighborhood! A couple of honeycreepers even built their nest in one of my cestrums. I have Four o'clocks of all colors, Aglaia odorata, Murraya panniculata, Moonvine, Senecio confusus, white and yellow Hedychium coronarium, Cestrum diurnum, salmon Brugmansia suaveolens, Cananga odorata and Jasminum sambac(our national flower)"Grand Duke" and "Maid of Orleans". All of these waft!
For color and texture, i got Lantana camara (9 varieties), Strobilanthes dyerianus, Cymbophogon citrinus, Belamcanda chinensis, Pardancandas, Piper nigrum (Black pepper), Evolvulus Blue Daze, Gloxinia sylvatica (Bolivian Sunset), red, orange and yellow Crossandra infundibuliformis,
Haemanthus (Blood lily), Ardisia crenata (Christmas berry), Justicia brandegeana (yellow shrimp plant), blue Plumbago auriculata, Jacaranda mimosifolia, Trimezia martinicensis, Cucurma elata, Odontonema strictum (Firespike), Gerberas, several varieties of Ixora, geraniums, dianthus, Neem tree, Red Palm, giant red, pink-white and orange amaryllis, Cuphea hyssopifolia (Mexican heather), double lemon yellow and double orange Cosmos sulphureus, blue Hydrangea, yellow, white and pink Zephyrantes, pink, white, orange, violet and red Vincas, few Celosias, Cypress Vine, Mexican sunflower, variegated ficus tree!
For groundcover, Arachis pintoi is spectacular!
My Gloriosa lilies from Von Bourgondien are in bloom, two months after I received and planted the bulbs.
I also have a single gloriosa daisy.
