Welcome to wintergardener's Member Page
I live and garden in a very urban area of Philadelphia. I have a small front yard (about 8x8), lots of houseplants, and a container garden on my small back patio (about 6x12). I also maintain a neighbor's front yard and an abandonded yard down the street. Not much space, but a whole lot of work! I am an organic gardener amidst a bunch of neighbors who are very fond of chemicals for weeds and bugs. This has proven tricky at times.
Some of my favorite plants to grow are vegetables, dahlias and marigolds. I find hort. endlessly fascinating, but especially like learning about wild edible plants, weeds and seaweeds.
I love the trend that's growing in Philly and across the country of eating locally grown food. I grew up in a rural area where a respect and understanding of natural rhythms is taken for granted. I've missed that living in an urban area but am glad to see it gaining momentum!
I'd love at some point to work at a restaurant that has its own garden, and would like to see more schools grow some of their own food.
