Gardening has been a life-saver for me. I have some health problems and when I am gardening, it's just me and my plants. My frustrations and anxieties disappear and I have a feeling of acknowledgement and serenity when I evaluate what I have done at the end of the day.

I always grow tomatoes. This year I also have several hills of cucumbers and two of watermelon. As of the last week in June, I have been harvesting a few tomatoes and a couple buckets of cucumbers. The watermelons are about the size of a peanut but the will grow quickly.

What I am most intersted in is landscaping around our new home. It is standing on my favorite place to go in the woods as a child and teenager. There is also a pond that was made by my father before I was born. I am making several special areas that have a theme - shade plants, plants that attract butterflies and hummers, ets.

My favorite flower by far is the violet. Although I have always loved the violets that grew at my parents house, until recently I was not aware that there were so many varieties. Now I am trying to find out everything about violets as possible. I especially love the fragrant ones - parmas and odorata.
