I've always been a highly technical person and have always worked in the high-stress world of research and technology (can you say "burn out"?). Yeah, did that a couple of times.
My wife has always been into gardening and weaving and knitting. We had started raising and breeding Angora rabbits for the hair (you can shear it like sheep), but that also left us with a lot of rabbit pellets. Great fertilizer for gardens, so I started working in the garden and discovered that I liked it.
Jump ahead 5 years and I've now finished my Master Gardener program. I am really into growing herbs, both culinary and medicinal. Most recently I've started vermicomposting. I researched and researched (OK, I'm an analytical, we do that) and finally set up my first bin in August 2003. The first week I was constantly checking on them and double checking my notes when my wife came up with this little gem:
"They're worms, they've been around for millions of years. I would think that they are fairly idiot proof."
You know, I think she's on to something...
Happy vermicomposting!
