I love planting flowers and watching them bloom. I originally decided to plant flowers so that my daughters could have the joy of picking them. I started by planting cosmos and sunflowers in a garden along with items that were fun for children to harvest (peas, pumpkins, etc.). Next I planted tulips, daffodils and crocus. Then my father gave me a few copies of Bird and Blooms magazine and suddenly I was hooked. I placed feeders for the birds around the yard and my children were delighted to see them. After planting a few hostas and heucheras, I fell in love with them. I enjoy the variety offered in these plants and have even added some mini hosta to my collection. I also love irises because they bring back wonderful childhood memories and they smell so sweet. Currently I am working on an iris bed and a couple of shade beds (more hostas and heucheras). But the progress is slow because I also enjoying going places and spending time with my girls and my husband. We spend alot of time at the pool during the summer. I love browsing the forums and have learned so much by just reading the posts. I have met some wonderful people on GardenWeb. It is one of my favorite websites. Happy Gardening! Valerie
