Gardening is a relatively new hobby for me. I first took it up whilst living in the UK. Like just about everyone else in that beautiful country, I took great pride in my lovely little cottage garden. Ten months ago, I returned to Australia to live permanently. I'm desperately trying to recreate a touch of England in my garden but without a great deal of success as we live 150 metres from the beach and the salt spray plays havoc with many of my plants. We've got a sort of rain forest thing going up the back of the garden and have planted native Australian trees and shrubs out the front which, understandably, are doing very well. I would like to plant a Jacaranda Mimosifolia out the front but have read that due to a low salt intolerence, I may be wasting my time. What do you think? I would be grateful for ideas regarding my quest for a cottage garden near the sea. We live in Wollongong NSW.
