We live in Pahrump, NV, on a little over an acre. Our main backyard is dominated by an 8'x16' greenhouse, 8' high waterfall and 4 raised-bed gardens.
The back back yard (outback) is larger than most city lots (90'x160') and has a desert tortoise sanctuary. At present we have 4 tortoises, 3 females and a male.
Our menagerie also includes 4 cats, 3 dogs and 2 cockatiels.
Our greenhouse is used not only to start seedlings but to provide protection from the drying winds (up to 70 mph) and lack of rain (a little over 2\" so far this year).
