I'm a veterinarian by trade whose other passion is collecting trees, especially conifers. My goal/hobby has been to create a personal arboretum on my 2 properties in western New York. One property has the bulk of my collection while the other has become overflow at this point. I am particularly partial to fir trees and white pines as they make up the bulk of my collection. Oaks come in at a close second. I also enjoy growing cold hardy tropicals (talk about an oxymoron!). I have 15 species of bamboo, many palm trees, a cactus/succulent garden, two species of bananas, and a giant gunnera - all of which grow outdoors year round here in western New York!
