We live in the mountains of San Diego, near Pine Valley. I enjoy gardening, and it has been a challenge to get our garden going, we started from scratch four years ago. Each year we have made progress, and learned more about what works, and what does not. We are at 4500 feet, so in winter, snow is possible. A very short growing season...last frost has been as late as Easter on one year. We have 20 hens. We would like to grow as much feed for them as possible to keep costs down. One of the biggest sucesses we have had is Collard greens, and broccoli, which overwinter very well. Luckily, the chickens like them too!
