I have always enjoyed flower gardens, even as a youngster growing up in the Pittsburgh area. Grandpa grew lovely roses, the old fashioned kind, but his tomatoes were the talk of the neighborhood. I still have fond memories of Mrs Karp's gorgeous irises and the carpet of Lily of the Valley near our house. Across the street Dr Weigle had a huge Lilac bush that I can almost smell today.

Grandpa's green thumb seems to have skipped my DNA, but I do OK with hostas, ferns, impatiens, honeysuckle and a modest butterfly garden. Of course, a sunny garden would help, but those big ol' trees do provide shade on our hazy, hot, humid days of summer. I look foward to learning lots more about gardening in the shade and sharing what I know with others.

I share my garden with my husband, a weekend napper, and our three cats. Their favorite game is to race outside, eat a little grass, come back inside and throw up. :-) One day soon, I'll plant some indoor grass for them so they won't have to run outside before they throw up!
