We live in a relatively small (< 1/2 acre) new construction lot in Helena, Alabama. It was nice to start 3 years ago with a "blank slate" and now have many gardens around the yard, which include perennials, peach trees, blueberries, a vegetable garden and various smaller trees. The lack of shade in this "new" yard has presented many challenges, and has limited my plant choices to those that thrive in full sun and heat. I finally broke down and bought a small tiller last spring and it’s made a world of difference breaking up this hard AL clay and adding soil amendments.
