I m somewhat of a novice to gardening, with just a few years under my belt. I m more of a veggie gardener rather than annual/perennial/flower person, but that is changing as we restore a 1/2 acre yard/lawn that had been overrun with blackberries. Am trying to keep it all organic, and also do some container gardening. I also did a very budget version of seed-starting this year, including sprouting seeds kept warm on top of the stereo receiver, and they are doing great! I ve got lettuce, tomatoes (mostly heirloom and some early hydrid types), coleus, and basil. It is quite addicting. I m also trying my hand at winter sowing (a modified spring version) as well as a budget version of seed-starting indoors, and both are looking to be a success. I once read that seed-starting and gardening in general is a "dependable miracle" and I think that is the most apt description I could ever think of.
As far as my personal life, I m a stepmom to two great girls. I am writing a novel and work by day as a composition instructor and a technical writer/analyst. Oh yeah, I also LOVE to knit.
