Im somewhat of a novice to gardening, with just a few years under my belt. Im more of a veggie gardener rather than annual/perennial/flower person, but that is changing as we restore a 1/2 acre yard/lawn that had been overrun with blackberries. Am trying to keep it all organic, and also do some container gardening. I also did a very budget version of seed-starting this year, including sprouting seeds kept warm on top of the stereo receiver, and they are doing great! Ive got lettuce, tomatoes (mostly heirloom and some early hydrid types), coleus, and basil. It is quite addicting. Im also trying my hand at winter sowing (a modified spring version) as well as a budget version of seed-starting indoors, and both are looking to be a success. I once read that seed-starting and gardening in general is a "dependable miracle" and I think that is the most apt description I could ever think of.

As far as my personal life, Im a stepmom to two great girls. I am writing a novel and work by day as a composition instructor and a technical writer/analyst. Oh yeah, I also LOVE to knit.
