I really fell in love with gardening after I was diagnosed with an unexpected life-threating illness. For a while I contemplated if I would live to see another spring and everything I took for granted was now out of my hands. Since then, it's been four years and I'm still here. For me, gardening is a spiritual confirmation that no matter how harsh the winter is, small miracles occur every day and things not only survive, but can grow stronger and more beautiful with time. It's very calming and affirming to surround myself with life unfolding; I try to work in my garden every day. In the winter, or if I feel sad, I visualize how fantastic spring will be. Every year the garden is more beautiful than the last. Sometimes I still feel anxious, but in my garden paradise I breathe deeply and my worries go away.
