I come from a long line of mediocre gardeners, including a mother who is a landscape architect. Last spring I took it upon my shoulders (or rather, back, legs, and other extremities) to dig up and plant the two overgrown beds in front of my house. I'm already in love with my Eryngiums, my blue Chinese Corydalis, and my Hellebores (which have four beautiful buds right now). I bought (from Walmart, always cheap but never a good idea) a supposed Clematis montana which turned out to be some rather puny white large-flowered hybrid, so maybe I'll aim for a montana again this spring. I am also hoping that my Guinee rose actually turns out to be a Guinee this summer.
Some of my favorite plants are Calypso bulbosa, a rare New England orchid that I have never seen; Hepatic americana, which grows in my backyard; and Fringed Gentian, which I saw blooming in the Rockies. I also love the wildflowers of my backyard, which is a Mixed Mesophytic forest. Dutchman's Breeches and Wild Ginger grow in abundance, and we have a few patches of Walking Fern.
God bless you and your plants!
