I love growing tomatoes (40 years now ) and seed saving and exchange with tomatoes and other salad crops and veg, I also grow a few "Giant veg" especialy Onions and Leeks,
Tomatoes are my main interest though, and at the moment I am looking for the varieties as follows:-
Brandywine Red-Landis valley Strain,Gogosha,Mong-giant tomato, Luck Leprechaun, Mr Brown, Rose, Cherokee Purple,Rose Quartz -multiflora type, Oaxacan Jewel, Carbon, Kosova, Picardy, UglyRipe,. to exchange with other members for seeds from my collection, which is as follows:-
Shirley- a money maker type but much improved, especialy the flavour,grows anywhere with heavy trusses from top to bottom with eight to ten tomatoes per truss, very heavy bottom truss often 16 tomatoes on it, very reliable.
Sweet Baby Girl- my personal favourite,totaly reliable , vigorous , desease resistant,covered in cherry size tomatoes-very sweet.
Ciliegia Pugliese- a very -very rare italian cherry tomato, that only comes from one village in Italy,tall indeterminate vines, triple forked long trusses all the way up the plant, very sweet red cherries ,
almost all of all the other available Italian varieties of the costoluto and long plum types available,both rare an common varieties,
English grenhouse and outdoor varieties too numerous to list are all available, old and modern.
Bamby-cherry tomato- very vigorous,often reaches 7 to 10 foot tall, covered in long strings of up to 16 to 20 cherry tomatoes, very sweet,but needs some control and eagle eye stopping at the later part of its growth cycle, otherwise it sends out side shoots at the top of the plant that can grow a foot a week or more,it takes some stopping believe me-as it seems determined and hell bent on making a big ball of side shoots at the top in a giant head of tangled mess covered in cherry tomatoes,fabulous plant but very headstrong once it feels its feet,very desease resistant.
Most of the well known American Heirlooms are available too numerous to list here; plus a few rare ones, also some of the American well known multi desease resistant modern varieties,
Lots of old English Heirloom Varieties available- please feel free to ask-via E-mail for just about anything you desire I may well have it, or can easily obtain it.
Russian Varieties:- I have several russian varieties and some rare ones:-
Tscherhomor Black -very rare, grows and looks very simular to Marihanas Peace but has a lot more flowers per truss, fairly large tomatoes-an intense violet red almost black, full of exotic flavours, - needs to be grown outside.rahter than in a greenhouse.
Sunset Red Horizon, aka- (Rostova ) highly recomended-if grown well, grows best outside,tall vigorous vines, long wispy leavesalmost twice as long as normal, will grow in a greenhouse-but needs to be watched closly in early stages as its a bit of a poor starter, slow growth until halfway-and then "whamo "- it goes like a rocket-with new found energy and vigor with large trusses of flowers of which give a medium good set, but what huge big tomatoes,
Marihanas Peace- a very good tomato if grown well, mainly outside grown, tomatoes must be left on the vine to thoroughly ripen before picking for the best creamy sweet flavour- wonderfull tomato,
Jasper- the fastest little trollop in the west, wild as a badger, fast speedy growth,tall vigorous vines, covered in vast spreading trusses of flowers, full of cherry tomatoes, always the first to show tomatoes and always the first to ripen outside,wonderfull little tomato,
Britains breakfast- an old almost heirloom variety , covered in vast speading trusses of flowers with hundreds of flowers per truss, needs truss pruning to reduce to about thirty per truss, plum shaped tomatoes, interesting oddity,
Spanish tomatoes, we have a few outdoor spanish varieties that are interesting in habit and type, that grow at odd times of the year etc, one called fitoball, and another large flat green shouldered one that grows out of season,and is especialy suited to bad stormy weather conditions,
also a scarce Sicilian one, that grows well in sandy soil,and is sweetest when its still a bit green-just on the turn, but matures into a green shouldered red tomato with scalloped edges;
Buffalo- a very short jointed beef type tomato -very reliable and desease resistant , where the trusses overlap each other all the way up the stem, for greenhouse use or outside,
Gurnsey-Pink Blush, a very nice tomato with pleasant flavour, from the Island of Gurnsey in the British channel islands, tomatoes are about golf ball size-heart shaped,with an intense pink colour, perhaps the brightest and intense pink I have ever seen.
"Piccola"= splendid new cherry I discovered, from spain,only as big as an average marble, but superb deep flavour, very-very strong flavour, sweet and yet savoury. limited quantity of seeds available for next years planting,may be a hybrid, may not come true to type,but it is superb-if anyone wants to give it a whirl.
I shall be adding considerably to this list as the season goes on. please feel free to contact me by E-mail if you have any of my current wants list at the top of page;which will change from time to time;
