I live in garner, about 10 mins south of raleigh. I have a very patient hubby, who although he isnt a gardener, has helped out lots when asked. Luckily, he really appreciates the garden and its goodies. 2 kids- a boy & girl, 15 & 12. They help out some, too- sometimes more willingly than others. Im trying to encourage the gardening gene without quashing it with too much drudge work. Weeding is a punishment for bad behavior, though- nothing that can be done to make it happy, so it may as well be useful! Strangely, i enjoy weeding to a degree- it allow the mind to wander.

Playing in my garden is my sanity. In the 16 yrs weve been at our house, ive crammed it pretty full, but am always looking for new things. I start a lot of seeds and cuttings- a large portion of the garden was from these methods. I would love to swap for unusual things! I especially enjoy working in edible goodies- the more unusual, the better.

My garden is very whimsical and i enjoy photographing the nuances. My husband is a welder and is always making some new fun thing to add to its charm. I never have less than 5 projects i want him to do for me! As an artist, i come up with some pretty creative stuff, too. I love being able to garden yr round(am from a northern clime, so i really appreciate it!).

We put in 2 small ponds connected with a stream a few yrs back, and have enjoyed exploring that niche. Wed like to do another in the backyard. Inside, we have a planted 55 gal fish tank, a couple of turtles, and 3 parrots as well. Pretty much anything without fur is fair game. We feed the birds outside and really enjoy watching their antics. I have always had an interest in butterflies- raising them as a child, and so incorporate lots of plants they like. Id love to be successful in starting a monarch colony, but so far havent had any takers on my asclepias patch.

I also really enjoy houseplants. I have a small collection of orchids. I have had reasonable luck in getting them to bloom for me.
