My grandmother in Knoxville proudly maintained over 500 varieties of Iris, not to mention a beautiful vegetable garden, berries, fruit trees, and grapes. She had a practical focus which guided her passion for gardening. My mom was a "southern" hostess who would walk anybody around the yard, introducing them to her newest and favorite plants. I inherited their love for gardening. For the first time I am in a home with nothing but a fenced backyard and two trees in the front yard. People actually lived in this house without wanting to make the yard beautiful? I am slowly developing butterfly gardens, water accents, and a natural patio area with fire pit... hopefully surrounded by a variety of texures and colors provided by nature. Because it has been years since I had time for a yard, I am redeveloping my skills. This site seems to be a good place... I popped on several times after googling for plant information.
