One of my earliest memories is hauling the kitchen scraps out to the compost heap. One of those big florescent green beatles flew up out of the pile and scared the beegeebees outta me, but I still am taking the kitchen scraps out to the compost heap some 40 years later. My Dad got me interested in gardening when I was just itty bitty. Tending the garden was my father's way of winding down after a busy day at work. I find it quite theraputic myself. It's usually the way I start my day; cup of coffee in hand, early morning calm, and the way I bring my day to a close. It's been hit or miss since I've moved to this part of California. The summers are much hotter here. Watering is a challange. I seem to either water too much or not enough. Maybe I can get some helpful hints from some of you other zone 9s.
