I have a love/hate relationship with my garden. Love to be in it, looking, sitting, doing. Hate it when it "gets away" and everything seems to need attention at once. Its a bit of a wild garden with lots of bird visitors, mainly parrots. Treeferns/palms/cycads and a creek give a rainforest appearance, which gives way to a more open area where I have a few perennials and roses and grow the odd tomato/lettuce/herbs. (Roses in Sydney is a bit mad, but I am grateful for anything they give and so persevere with the humidity and shade problems).I love the way the garden does it own thing, self-seeding in unusual places. The generosity of the "busy lizzies" whose bright faces pop up in even the darkest corner are always welcome (even though they could be classed as weed-like).
There is just enough hedge to keep the man of the house under "clipper control" and fulfil his sense of order.
My family (2 adult children) think the garden is an addiction and they are probably right as I would hate to be without a piece of dirt or even just pots.If I live to be really, really old and maybe need care I hope I can live where I can be in or see a garden. Anyway old gardeners when they die just return to the garden!
