Former marketing manager retired to be a stay at home mother of 3 kids -- ages 4, 3 and 20 months. Never cared about the yard or gardening -- most likely because I didn't have the time between diaper changes! Yes, I actually had all 3 in diapers at one point! We usually just paid someone to plant some flowers.

In January, we moved into a new house, in which the former owner happened to be a gardening enthusiast. At the closing she said to me, "Please treat the yard like a baby. Alot of backbreaking work went into it." After the closing I learned that the climbing roses on the side of the house were transplanted from her great-aunt's home and were over 130 years old! I was terrified that I would not be able to take care of it all. It didn't help matters that every new neighbor stopped by to tell me how the former owner had such a 'green thumb' and worked so hard in the yard everyday to keep it looking so beautiful. What pressure! So I just started reading everything I could about roses and gardening. I became addicted. For the first time in my life I had a hobby. Working in the yard kept me out of the shopping malls which really pleased my husband. The downside being now I can't stop buying flowers/plants at the nurseries! My husband keeps saying "NO MORE FLOWERS!" I just can't stop!
