You've heard of Square Foot gardening? My garden is more like Square Inch gardening. It's that small.

It is also a good example of how NOT to design a garden. It’s crowded, the exposure is three flavors of shade ("dappled", "deep" and "what the heck is back there?!", its also the victim of squirrels and the neighbor’s dogs, but it’s all mine!

Also African violets seem to like me. I have no idea why, but it's one of the few houseplants that I do well with.

2003 update: The ajuga fell victim to the dogs, the squirrels gave up when my birdfeeders started serving saffron seed and the hostas are stunning. Other major players in my garden are ferns, , clematis, heuchera, daylillies and miniature roses who enjoy the partial sun one of the beds gets.

2007 update: The neighbor's dogs are gone, so the ajuga is making a slooow comeback. The hostas are migrating to the back to take over there. I get a spot or two of sunlight now, but not as much as I could use. I gave up on the daylilies (except for Stella d'Oro) and am still looking for a nice, unusual hellebore.
