Hello, I'm seil and I inherited my gardening gene from my Mom. We always had beautiful flowers growing around our house growing up. In the 60's Mom planted a show stopping 100 red shrub roses (which I'm trying to identify) along the 100 foot street side of our lot. These, along with a wonderful bed of roses and perennials, are how I fell in love with roses and gardening. I'm living in the house now that Mom's passed away and although the rose hedge is gone I still have several of her original roses and am trying to rebuild those beautiful rose and perennial beds. Mother was self taught through reading and experience and I am Mom taught and now web learning more and more. I can grow most anything outside but don't give me a house plant unless it's one you want to kill. I like reading the forums because the questions and answers are from real gardeners under real conditions. Not just a nursery tag or catalogue blurb about growing things in ideal conditions. None of the growing conditions here in my yard in the northeast suburbs of Detroit along the Great Lakes are ideal. The soil is either sand or clay. It's either too hot and dry or too cold and wet. And let's face it Michigan = black spot. But I love the battle because the results can be spectacular when it all comes together!
