I have diverse interests in plants. My largest collection of plants are daylilies, followed by Siberian Irises, hostas, bearded irises, and Lilacs, and woodland wildflowers. I began my gardening hobby growing roses but my sandy coastal soil didn't provide enough nutrient or water-retention to keep any of the hybrid teas happy (the rugosa's grow crazy here, though). I installed some raised beds to grow the daylily and irises. I converted several shady nooks into a woodland wildflower garden, a fairy garden and a hosta garden. I have a large round bed in the sunshine which I dug with the intent to make it a moon garden. But once some of my treas leafed out, I couldn't see it from my house. In the springtime, the bulbs are red, white and blue in honor of those who perished in the September 11th attacks as well as the armed services. This is achieved with tulips, grape hyacinth, daffodils and a red quince. In the late spring, it is shades of soft pink and blue, achieved with dianthus, hardy geraniums, a central lilac standard Palibum, iris cristata, veronica and a light blue moss phlox,. in the summertime, there is again more white and red added as some red asiatic lilies, Gentle Shepherd daylily, and Henryii clematis bloom. And on to fall as white and pink oriental lilies bloom. This garden is about twelve feet wide and keeps my interest from spring to fall!
