Ive been involved with all sorts of handwork, for many years, including the making of antique sampler reproduction, spinning and dying my own wool for knitting and, for the last few years, quilting. I make my quilts completely by hand, and love to find old tops at antique shops and flea markets and then, with the addition of backing, filling and binding, turn them finally into quilts. I also buy single blocks, and create quilts using the old ones along with the addition of new blocks that I make from period fabrics, either reproduction or from my stash of old fabrics. My husbands job includes a good bit of travel, so Im able to shop for these old treasures in lots of different places - theyre still reasonably priced and I buy them whenever I find them...who knows how long theyll be available. Its wonderful to rescue these bits and pieces of history and I like to think the ladies who made them would be happy their handwork is appreciated!
