I garden in North Carolina on the cusp between zone 7 and 8. So if I see a plant that is hardy to zone 8, I always try it out. I love old Southern plants--hydrangeas, gardenias, Johnson amaryllis, and of course azaleas. I have just started propagating shrubs--had enough sense to start with the easy ones. I'm also a birder which sometimes conflicts with the fact that I have two grandkitties--until my daughter can find an apartment that will take her pets in San Francisco (good luck!). I'm the only gardener in my immediate family, now that daughter is gone. My husband grows grass (fescue, that is) only. My son plays video games!
