I have a mostly shady back garden in the city When we moved here four years ago, the only plants were a few orange tiger lilies. With my son's help,I now have rambling beds along the path we had put in, a small pond, and a little cottage type shed. I have bad arthritis, but I manage to do a little bit each day out there. We cannot have fish in the pond, as the city (Toronto) is full of racoons who would come for a meal each night. They even like to fling out the few water plants that will grow in our shade. So, I have a few fake floating flowers and some floating gazing balls. The racoons, skunks and squirrels really can do a number on the garden. I think the racoons and skunks party by night and the squirrels by day.

I have been amending the soil with compost, made in two closed tumblers. I also have a wire bin where I make leaf mold from chopped leaves.

I love lots of garden art and "stuff" in my garden. It feels like a magical place.

Ruddy
