My partner and I are neophyte gardeners trying to carve a little paradise out of a bowling-alley Brooklyn backyard with lousy soil and far too much shade. In the tradition of New England farmers digging rocks out of their fields in the Spring, we enjoy removing pieces of glass, old wire and assorted plastic fragments from the "hill" in the way back.
