I am a recently retired school teacher living in the city of Mississauga which borders Toronto, Ontario. I have been very passionate about gardening ever since my mid twenties when my wife and I moved into our first home. Unfortunately, she doesn't share my enthusiam for the garden but that's because she feels I pay more attention to it than to her. (I don't think that's entirely true. On the other hand, she's never asked me to chose.) I enjoy growing roses and starting most of my own annuals. To that end, I bud my own rose standards and currently have about 2 dozen. Each November I "winterize" them by dropping them down and burying them where they grow. This is a chore that I don't look forward to. I also have about 6 Austins, a few climbers and some minis.
Regarding the annuals, I have 4 home built light stands in my basement (56 fluorescent tubes) and which I use to start any number of seeds. The largest amount of space is devoted to geraniums, tuberous begonias, petunias, impatiens, lobelia and some vegetables (tomatoes, onions, peppers, egg plant, cucumbers) This year I am trying to grow watermelon for the first time.
During the winter, when I'm not gardening, I enjoy making furniture in my wood shop.

I live in: Canada

My zone is: 6aOnt
