I find great satisfaction in creating compost. I have two 1-cubic-yard wire (hardware cloth) bins on my one-third acre suburban lot.

My 4-year-old daughter and I enjoy growing (mainly) vegetables using Mel Bartholemew's Square Foot Gardening method. I have a diminutive, 32 square foot, raised bed garden (with lots of compost, of course).

I'm new to both of these pursuits, having planted my first 4-foot by 4-foot bed in 2003, although I have perhaps absorbed some of my father's considerable experience in growing vegetables.
