I am the lucky son of a master gardener who, filling my hands with native seeds, set me to sowing before I could even recite the alphabet. She gave me a gift, one that, though she recently passed, will never die: She taught me to love and nurture our earth while loving and nurturing me. I keep her funny little bottles, envelopes and bags of heirloom poppy and bachelor button seeds all in a box. One day I will broadcast them in her memory. It isn t yet time. But when it is it will be my gift to her. A gift of a smile, when passing overhead, at the wildflower garden I made just for her.
