Live in 1882 farmhouse in the mountains of Northern Tasmania. Cold and wet in winter with some frequent snow. And a lot of very strong winds. Well established garden let run down a bit. Lots of elders including variegated ones. Have been planting birch groves and an Italian alder (I do have that much space!!) Sheep grazing property. Keep poddy lambs around the house when I have them. Irritates the hell out of my wife as they routinely decimate the garden. Does however save pruning. Also means that all of the shrubs and trees in the garden are standards. Without any effort on my part. The small paddock next to the house is heavily colonised by snowdrops and various kinds of daffodils which are starting to flower now. Even though this paddock is under 10-20 cm of water for most of winter.
