When my husband retired in March, 2003 we left the Gulf Coast of Florida for the mountains of Tenn. Of course there are people who think we’re crazy and there are times we are prone to agree. Once we had a landscape plan all figured with holly, cypress and azaleas but hit too many unmovable stones for all the plants. Oh well, we aren’t experts so we just put them wherever we could get a large enough hole and made a stone wall with the ones we could dig out. Fortunately the areas immediately surrounding the house went in very well. We just completed our water garden which took about one month of digging and moving stone. It is a small pool going into a curving stream down a slight slope into a larger pool. At 22" we could go no further without dynamite. In spite of all this we are pleased with the results and we love our mountain home. We have several areas designated for gardens and are gradually getting them planted with mostly hosta, which is my obsession. In the meantime we are enjoying the many wild flowers and ferns which cover our 6.80 acres.
